SGA Lady Warriors fall short in Final Four against Brentwood; finish season 22-4

The SGA Lady Warriors wrapped up another successful season with a loss to the Brentwood Lady Eagles on Friday in the GISA AA State Semifinals at Georgia Southwestern State University. Brentwood then went on to claim their second straight state championship the following day.

The Lady Warriors reached the Final Four for the third straight season to continue an amazing run of success under the direction of coach Amy Tucker.

This year’s team was led by seniors Kamryn Carver, Caroline Harper and Caroline Kirkland; juniors Devyn Bennett, Maggie Benton, Abby Bruner, Anna Dozier, and Mimi Sasser, and freshman Ella Ashley.

Other members of the team who gained valuable experience and will be counted on next year, include sophomores Lanie Conner, Lauren Godwin, Emma Holloman, and Ava Williams; freshmen Cailyn Dean, Ashlyn Durden, Emmalee Johnson and eighth grader Blair Bennett.

This team completed the season with a 22-4 record. Four Lady Warriors were honored as All-Region: Kamryn Carver, Caroline Kirkland, Anna Dozier, and Ella Ashley. Also making All-Region for the SGA Warriors boys’ team was Mac Broome.

These student-athletes took us on an amazing journey with their hustle, determination, and teamwork throughout the year and came up just short of their goal of a state championship. This year’s seniors will be missed greatly next year, but the future remains bright for SGA basketball.
