Hanson Owen


 

 

George Hanson Owen Jr., 77, of Windsor, N.C., died Sunday, July 15, 2022, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, N.C.

Mr. Owen was born August 31, 1944, in Early County, Blakely, Ga., the son of the late George Hanson Owen, Sr., and Mary Chandler Owen Davis.

George was a member of Roper Baptist Church, Roper, N.C., and served as a team leader for Celebrate Recovery and Alcoholics Anonymous. George also began teaming with the KAIROS Prison Ministry prior to his declining health which meets at the Bertie Department of Correction, Windsor, N.C.

Hanson’s surviving family is his sister, Mary Frances Dille and her son, Benjamin Dille. A first-born sister passed away at the age of about 3 months.

Hanson graduated from Blakely-Union High School June 1962. He was captain of the Bobcats’ football team his senior year. The Bobcats were runner up in the state championship that year. He attended the University of Southern Miss. on a football scholarship and graduated June 1966 with a bachelor of science degree.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. at the Blakely Cemetery, Blakely, Ga., with Rev. Howard Simpson, Jr., officiating. Burial followed in Blakely Cemetery. Family received friends following graveside service.
