County commission approves projects, makes appoints, provides for a raise for the sheriff

The monthly meeting of the Early County Commission was held on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. with all members present.

After approving the minutes from the December meeting, commissioners approved drainage improvements for the Early County airport. The project, with the only cost to taxpayers being $3,500.00, will move forward once County Attorney Bill Mills approves the contract.

Regarding county employees, the commission approved the 2023 holiday calendar. They also approved the end of COVID pay in accordance with federal and state regulations.

Alcohol licenses were approved for the Log Cabin Restaurant and the County Line Package Store and Riverside Travel Center in Hilton.

Commissioner Taylor Bridges and Wallace O’Neal were unanimously reappointed as representatives to Golden Triangle RC&D.

The meeting ended with unanimous approval by the commissioners for a supplement to the salary of the Sheriff totaling $10,000. This will be offset by the elimination of a $15,000.00 part-time position in sheriff’s office.
