Assigned as a platoon leader, Lee was killed while on patrol outside of Mosul, Iraq by an IED. He was returned to Dover, Delaware, Fort Benning, and home before being buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

His commander called him “an extraordinary young man and officer.” He said, “First Lieutenant Lee was exactly the type of leader that our paratroopers deserve.”

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and Overseas Service Bar.

The park has become an integral part of Bluffton and the surrounding communities. It serves as a reminder of the men and women who serve and have served to keep our country safe and free. The inscription on the park marker reads “As they sacrificed themselves in conflict, may our children live in peace.”

Your attendance at the re-dedication service to honor these brave men and women would be most appreciated.
