The Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors took on the Terrell Academy Eagles in Dawson, GA last Friday night for the Region 3-AA Championship.

Coming off a big win against Monsignor Donovan the week before, the night began with SGA receiving the ball but fumbling it about 2 plays in, resulting in a turnover to the Eagles.

The Warriors ended the first quarter down 0- 7 and on the one yard line, but still in high spirits.

In the second quarter, the Warriors secured 2 touchdowns while the Eagles scored 3, resulting in the score of 14-28 for the Eagles when the teams returned to the locker rooms at halftime.

Both teams held strong offensive games, resulting in the final score of 48-55, with the Warriors getting the last touchdown just after the final buzzer. SGA ended with 466 total yards.

Senior quarterback Austin Pickle threw 13- 16 completions-attempts, got 333 passing yards, and 5 TDs. Senior Aaron Haire had 9 carries, 96 rushing yards, 2 TDs, 2 receptions, 31 receiving yards on the offensive side and 13 tackles and 1 deflection on the defensive side. Senior Keyshawn Jackson had 6 receptions, 217 yards, and 4 TDs. He also acquired 7 kick returns with 181 return yards. Senior Holden Phillips played strong on the defense side with 18 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.

“It was a hard fought region title game. We came up short. We just couldn’t overcome the early deficit. I’m proud of our kids effort and that they never gave up. They fought until the last play,” head coach Daniel McFather said. “We look to bounce back this week hosting the first round of the playoffs against Briarwood.”

SGA moves to 7-2 (2-1). They will host Briarwood Academy in Damascus this Friday for the first round of the GISA AA State Playoffs.
