Damascus man among four casualties

Georgia State Patrol Post 14 reported last week that four people died in two Oct. 2 wrecks.

Three people were killed in a head-on collision on Georgia Highway 91 near the Miller-Seminole County line.

The collision, in Seminole County, was reported approximately 11:53 p.m. A northbound 1999 GMC Sierra, driven by Kenneth Scarborough, 62, of Columbus, Ga., had crossed the center line, crashing head-on with a 2019 Kia Soul driven by Paul Dukes, 74, of Damascus.

Both drivers sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the wreck. A passenger in the KIA, Annie Price, 75, of Colquitt, was transported via helicopter from the scene. Price died later from her injuries.

The second wreck was reported at approximately 1:14 p.m. A 2008 Nissan Rogue traveling north on Georgia Highway 309 in Decatur County struck a tractor on the side of the road approximately one-half mile south of Lambert Harrell Road.

The driver of the Nissan, 79-year-old Calvin Hunter of Whigham, died from his injuries on the scene.

The tractor driver was 49-year-old Javann Thomas of Bainbridge. The tractor was owned by Twin H Farms of Climax.

Thomas had pulled the tractor to the side of the road to close a field gate, but was unable to fully exit the road. For unknown reasons, Hunter did not see the tractor and struck the rear tires.
