Delma Houston

Delma Omera Barbree Houston, 98, passed away in the early morning hours Thur sday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Dothan, Ala.

A graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at the Blakely Cemetery with Dr. Cliff Houston and Pam Grist officiating. Visitation was at the First Baptist Church social hall at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Houston was born Sept. 18, 1919, to the late Remus Lee Barbree and Minnie Lee Newberry Barbree. She was a paraprofessional for the Early County Elementary School, a member of First Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Cary Marvin Houston; one sister, Carolyn Virginia Fuller; and three brothers, Dorsey Rudolph Barbree, Eugene Cook Barbree and Richard “Dick” Barbree.

Survivors include one daughter, Pam and Richard “Buck” Grist of Blakely, Ga.; one son, Dr. Cliff Houston and Karen of Pittsview, N.Y.; and one sister, Alicia Collier and Robert of Blakely. There are four grandchildren, Virginia Grist Gordon (Randy), Richard “Dee” Grist (April), Amanda Casey and Emily Houston (Liz); and four greatgrandchildren.

The family received friends at the home of Richard and Pam Grist.

Manry-Jordan- Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
