SGA Senior BETA officers elected

Members of the SGA National Senior BETA Club met Aug. 17 to elect officers for 2018-2019. Those elected are Ash Phillips, president; Bridget Peterson, vicepresident; Laurel Wilkerson, secretary; Ansley Smith, corresponding secretary; Caroline Harper, treasurer; Abbie Earnest, reporter; Abby Chapman, historian; Collier Harper, communications director; Loulie Hattaway, parliamentarian; and Karlie Bridges and Aida Dozier, program directors).

Membership is available to students in grades nine through 12 who meet the academic and character requirements set by the National Beta Club. Ninth graders who meet the requirements are invited into the organization and will be inducted after the first nine weeks grading period. The officers met with Mrs. Calhoun, sponsor, Aug. 27 to discuss school and community service projects for the year and to also go over the officer job descriptions.

The National Beta Club is a prestigious organization that recognizes students who maintain academic excellence and exhibit exemplary ethical and moral character. The purpose of this organization shall be the promotion of scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship at Southwest Georgia Academy and within the community. Members must also adhere to standards established in the National and SGA BETA Club Constitutions pertaining to our Southwest Georgia community and school service projects as designated in the bylaws. BETA members must participate in fundraising projects for selected charitable organizations, as well as, for the improvement of the school. Most importantly, members will endeavor at all times to be of service to Southwest Georgia Academy and its students by upholding high standards of honesty and good citizenship.

The SGA Senior Beta Organization is excited to report that this club has donated $1,000.00 for the purchase of new desks and $1,000.00 to the PTO fund for air conditioning the auditorium during the month of August 2018.
