Bluffton Baptist Church to host ‘Shoebox Saturday’

Bluffton Baptist Church is inviting all local shoebox packers, organizations or churches that currently pack Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes — as well as anyone who is interested in learning more about the worldwide impact of Operation Christmas Child to a “Shoebox Saturday” event, Saturday Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Bluffton Community House.

The program will include information on how to pack a shoebox, how to organize your group in establishing and accomplishing your shoebox goals, as well as hearing from an OCC Representative that recently traveled to Malawi, Africa to take part in a distribution. Light refreshments will be served, OCC resources will be available for pick-up and a demonstration on upcycling t-shirts into jump ropes will take place.

Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child — a project of Samaritan’s Purse, has delivered more than 157 million shoeboxes to children across the globe.

Shoeboxes are packed by individuals, families, churches, groups and organizations here in the United States then shipped to more than 100 countries where they are distributed to children between the ages of 2 and 14.

Contact Meghan Williams at 229-641- 2005 with any questions or for more information. The first five organizations to arrive will receive 20 shoeboxes to help meet their packing goals for this year. Additional information is also available on Facebook through the Bluffton Baptist Church event “Shoebox Saturday.” General information about the Operation Christmas Child project is available through the OCC website at https://www.samari-tanspurse.org/what-wedo/operation-christmaschild
