SGA Warriors defeat ACA Generals

The Warriors’ Aiden Bruner chases General’s ball carrier. The Warriors’ Aiden Bruner chases General’s ball carrier. The Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors hosted the Abbeville Christian Academy Generals in the season opener Friday in Damascus.

The Warriors started off strong scoring a touchdown in the first four minutes of the game, but the Generals scored a touchdown shortly after making it 7-7.

The Generals put together an offensive drive in the second half that lasted the entire third quarter finishing with a touchdown.

The Warriors got into rhythm and finished the game winning 40- 14. Senior quarterback Austin Pickle threw for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Keyshawn Jackson lead the offense with 74 yards and two touchdowns, junior Cole Bruner had three carries, 32 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Preston Johnson had six carries for 29 yards and a touchdown. Senior Luke Benton had nine carries for 29 yards.

Junior Rod Davis lead the defense with five tackles, one tackle for loss and one interception he returned 35 yards for a touchdown. Senior Holden Phillips had 14 tackles, 2 for losses, and one forced fumble. Senior Keyshawn Jackson had three tackles, two interceptions and 50 return yards. Junior Cole Bruner had eight tackles, a forced fumble and a pass deflection. Senior Austin Pickle had seven tackles, a pass deflection and a fumble recovery. Junior Brooks Mathis had seven tackles, one for loss of yards.

The offense had 141 rushing yards, 74 passing yards, four turnovers forced and one turnover.

When asked about how the season is starting, head coach Coach McFather said “We are proud of our boys winning and how hard they played. We showed improvement from our scrimmage last week. Our goal is to get better each week, and we did that this past week, and Lord-willing we will continue to improve even more as long as our young men keep working hard.”
