Mary Sheffield

Mary Ophelia Hall Sheffield, 91, passed away early Wednesday morning July 25, 2018, at Extendicare Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dothan, Ala.

Mrs. Sheffield was born July 28, 1926, in Savannah, Ga., to the late James Weaver Hall and Eliza Harper Hall. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Blakely, Ga., and had retired as a secretary for the Early County Elementary School.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe M. Sheffield Sr.; two sisters, Vivian Dixon and Helen Carter; and three brothers; Norman Hall, Earl Hall and Merle Hall.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Milton Sheffield Jr. and wife Lou Ann of Knoxville, Tenn., and Dr. David Samuel Sheffield and wife Cindy of Dothan; four grandchildren, Christie Benchabbat and David of Knoxville, Travis Sheffield of North Auburn, Calif., Jennifer Randa and Hunter of Birmingham, Ala., and Amanda Woodham and Dustin of Dothan; and four great-grandchildren, Kirra and Libby Benchabbat, Hayes Randa and Lawsen Woodham.

The funeral service was held Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 2 p.m. EDT at First Baptist Church in Blakely. Rev. Keith Alderman officiated and burial followed in the Blakely Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Travis Sheffield, Dustin Woodham, Hunter Randa, Mike Hall, David Benchabbat and Michael McNeal. Honorary pallbearers were member of the DD Club.

The family received friends for visitation at 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
