James Whitehurst

Retired

James W. “Wally” Whitehurst, 86, of Lincoln, Neb., passed away July 3, 2018. He was born May 29, 1932, in Blakely, Ga.

Survived by wife of 64 years, Peggy (Teachout) Whitehurst; daughters, Deanna M. (Charles) Jaymes, Donna L. (Doug) Debban, Alicia W. (Robert) Fechtmeister, Amy L. (Troy) Frankforter and Joyce (Wayne) Lee; son, Alan (Darlene) Budt; 18 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren, and many close friends and extended family.

Wally retired as a Major in the Air Force after 20 years of service. He fought in the Korean war (1 tour) and the Vietnam war (2 tours). He was a navigator/radar bombardier. Wally flew the B-29, KC-97, B-47, and ended his career in the Air Force flying a B-52.

Wally showed his love of barbershop music as a member of the Lincoln Continentals Chapter of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. for 34 years. He made many cherished friendships along the way.

He was preceded in death by his son; mother and father; two sisters and one brother.

Visitation was Sunday, July 8, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the funeral service was Monday, July 9, 2018, at 10 a.m. with all services at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Service was officiated by Pastor Mike Kidder of Belmont Baptist Church of which Wally and Peggy are members. A luncheon was served immediately following the service.
