Clarence Cook Jr.


Clarence Cook Jr., 75, of Arlington, Ga., passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018, in the Early Memorial Nursing Home in Blakely, Ga.

Mr. Cook was born in Early County, Ga., Dec. 6, 1942, to the late Clarence Cook Sr. and Eloise Ferguson Cook. He was a member of Arlington Baptist Church and was retired from law enforcement for the State of Georgia as sergeant for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton Lawhorne.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Varnum Cook; one sister, Clarice Jestice of Dearborn, Mich.; eight nieces, Karen and Steve Hill, Kim and John Jestice, Kelly and David Fry, Valorie Renne and Chris Ferrey, Jenny Richeaux and Sheri Smith; three nephews, Kyle Dupree, Jay Varnum and Gabe, Brandie Varnum and April Varnum; motherin law, Nettie Varnum; sister-in-law, Cynthia Dupree; and a brotherin law, Earl and Kathy Varnum.

Funeral service was held on Friday, July 6, 2018, at 11 a.m. in Arlington Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Mason officiating. Burial followed in Arlington Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until funeral time.

Serving as active pallbearers were Payton Cook, Lamar Cook, Wiley Girard, Kent Cheney, Mike Bonner and Bruce Andrews. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ike Newberry Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arlington Baptist Church.

Manry-Jordan- Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
