Maebell turning 100!


Maebelle Giles Maebelle Giles Maebelle “Granny” Everson Giles will celebrate her 100th birthday July 5, 2018.

She is the daughter of the late Maggie Merritt Everson and the late Ommer F. Everson of Colquitt.

Maebelle was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Blakely until, at age 89, she moved to Statesboro with her youngest son, Jimmy and wife, Beth. She is now a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Statesboro.

Maebelle was married to the late John Hixon Giles and has three children, Dr. Eugene Giles, Joyce Corbitt, and Jimmy Giles. She has five grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

The majority of her married life she was a homemaker with a few jobs outside the home. She worked for many years at Blakely Immediate Care.

As many people will remember, her favorite hobbies were baking cakes and working in her flower beds. She also spent many hours reading books she checked out at Maddox Memorial Library.

Maebelle constantly talks about her friends in Blakely and the many good times they shared.
