Melanie Rogers, Mayor, cut the ribbon for the Jakin Park Lodge, surrounded by city and county officials and guests. The ribbon cutting and open house for the Jakin Park Lodge was held June 12 and was well attended by local residents and visitors, including 22 Jakin Community Club members. Mayor, Melanie Rogers, welcomed all and the reception was opened with prayer by Doug Harvey. Delicious refreshments were provided by the City Council.

This building was always known as “The Courthouse” and was primarily used for voting. It was also used in the past for community club meetings, city council meetings, and rented for reunions, showers, etc. It was in disrepair and needed a new roof, electrical wiring, flooring, HVAC unit, kitchen repair and paint.

Rogers thanked the citizens of Early County for voting for SPLOST. These funds were used in the renovation of this building. And now Jakin has a completely new building with a screened-in porch and handicapped accessible bathroom. A special thank you to J&R Construction for their wonderful job.

Thank you to June Merritt, Chairman of the County Commissioners, and Taylor Bridges, Jakin’s District County Commissioner, for assisting in the quest to keep the building for citizens’ use. Also attending the reception and representing Early County were Spencer Mueller, County Administrator; Ann Harrell, Tax Commissioner; and Gayle Anderson, Clerk of Superior Court.

A special thank you to and recognition of Farley Nuclear Plant for donating the new tables and chairs that completed the furnishings.

This building is now called “Jakin Park Lodge.” It will be used by the Jakin Community Club for their monthly meetings (first Thursday of month at 6:30 p.m.). It will also be available for rentals for family reunions, showers, meetings, etc. With the park, gazebo and library right across the street, it will be an asset for any gathering.
