Food processing facility opens

The Early County High Food Processing Plant will be opening now that the school year has ended. The facility will be open on the following dates from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day: June 5, 7, 12, 14, 18-21 and 25-28 July 3 and 5 appointment only, 12, 17, and 19 after that by appointment only until Oct. 30.

The facility will be available to help with shelling, blanching and canning needs. The cost of shelling will be $6 per bushel, blanching will be $1 per bushel and cans are 70 cents each. All products to be canned must be in the canning plant no later than 12 p.m. due to the amount of cooking and cooling time needed to process the cans.

The canning facility is operated by the Vocational Agriculture Department at Early County High School. The facility is open for private canning only and can not be used for commercial processing.
