Pataula Charter Academy, chartered in 2010, held its second graduation ceremony May 25 in Edison with 30 graduating seniors. This was the first graduation in the school’s new facility.

Valedictorian Perry Everson and Salutatorian Carly-Ann Collier gave thoughtful and inspiring speeches to their fellow classmates during the ceremony.

Senior Superlative Victoria James sang “Because You Loved Me,” by Celine Dion. Senior Superlative Abigail Hines spoke about many of the accomplishments of the class, including 63 percent of graduates participating in dual enrollment amassing over 500 college hours, over $330,000 in scholarship money, 83 percent of students eligible for HOPE scholarship and completing over 5,000 hours of community service during their four years of high school.

Other senior superlatives include Victor James, Tithi Patel, also the STAR Student, and Anna Kate Sizemore.

Valedictorian, salutatorian and senior superlatives are selected based a variety of criteria, including GPA, dual enrollment hours, school and community involvement and character.

Half of the Class of 2018 graduated with academic honors. Carly- Ann Collier, Perry Everson and Abigail Hines graduated summa cum laude with a GPA of 4.0.

Students graduating magna cum laude with a GPA of 3.8 or higher were Jacob Jackson, Kameron Losey, Hiral Patel, Tithi Patel and Anna Kate Sizemore.

Bobby Atchley, Haley Duke, Amber Hudgins, Victor James, Victoria James, Takyia Price, Nazariah Robinson and Alyssa Shroeder all graduated cum laude with a GPA of 3.6 or above).
