Bicentennial Hymn Sing

The First Baptist Church sanctuary was packed with over 350 people from Southwest Georgia and Alabama for the April 29 Early County Bicentennial “Old Fashioned” Hymn Sing to enjoy beloved hymns from the past 200 years.

Early County gospel music writer and farmer, Brantley C. George was honored and his granddaughter,

Wanda George Brown, and cousin Doug George, were recognized. The congregation and First Baptist Men’s Quartet sang his famous song, “Hide Me, Rock of Ages,” written in 1946 and made famous by the Stamps Quartet.

The night ended with “Silent Night,” written in 1818, led by the Jeremy Jordan family.

The Bicentennial Committee plans to produce a CD of the music. Make plans to attend another Bicentennial event, the Dulcimer Band Concert from Landmark Park in Dothan May 20 at First Baptist Church.
