“Old Fashioned” Hymn Sing April 29

eFirst Baptist Church of Blakely is hosting a 2018 Bicentennial “Old Fashioned” Hymn Sing Sunday, April 29 at 6 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

The “Old-Fashioned” Hymn Sing will be a celebration of 200 years of Hymn Singing of old, familiar hymns written during the Bicentennial period — 1818- 2018.

Chorister/director for the hymn sing will be Brad Hughes, who has participated in a number of hymn singing events in other communities. Instrumentalists for the evening are Ann Jarrett, Pianist, Carolyn Starling, Organist, Jeremy Jordan, guitarist and Brad Clenney, drummer. The welcome will be given by First

Baptist Pastor Rev. Keith Alderman.

Prior to the Hymn Sing, a video will be shown featuring photos of Early County scenes, including many churches, taken by local award-winning photographer,

Bobby Gilbert of Early County.

Featured during the evening will be the old gospel song, “Hide Me, Rock of Ages”, written and composed in the 1940s by Early County farmer, Brantley C. George. It was made famous by the Stamps Quartet in 1946 and later recorded by other gospel groups.

Hymn Sings have spread across America, reviving great hymns of faith and encouraging the joyful sounds of congregational harmony.

Church hymns have been preserved through the centuries by faithful Christians who have experienced the life changing power of their messages. The Gospel Music Hymn Sing Foundation was formed to promote and preserve Congregational Hymn Singing.

The “Old Fashioned” Hymn Sing is the first of hopefully many in Early County. Everyone is encouraged to come and participate. Find out about other Bicentennial events at www.facebook.com /EarlyCo200.
