Margie Nightingale

Margie Ann Nightingale, 94, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018, at her home in Hemet, Calif.

Mrs. Nightingale was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Blakely, Ga. She grew up with Southern values and held them dear to her heart for her entire life.

Margie moved to Hemet, with her husband, in 1978 and spent her adult life as a mother and homemaker. Family was always first and foremost to her. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always ready for her family to come and visit “Nannie” and stay as long as possible.

She was always very sad to see them go.

As an avid traveler/cruiser, she was ready to go at the drop of a hat. She cruised over 30 times, and her travels took her far and wide. A few of the destinations were the Amazon River, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Russia and many, many trips to her heaven on earth, Maui.

Margarita Leal, her primary caregiver for the past 12 years, was her greatest blessing in her later years. Margarita helped Margie stay active and they were always on the go. Elvie Moore and Aida Roe came onboard more recently, to be with her during the night. These women are angels on this earth, and made it possible to fulfill her wish to remain in her home.

Mrs. Nightingale was predeceased, in 1989, by her husband, Charles Nightingale.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Coty; sons, Steve Griffin, Chuck Griffin (Cheryl); grandchildren, Brian Coty (Genevieve), Eric Coty (Kellie), Matthew Coty (Jazmin), Colin Griffin (Marina) Griffin, Jake Griffin, Danielle Schaper, Hunter Griffin, Hailey Griffin; great grandchildren, Melissa Coty, Hannah Coty, Kaela Coty, Joseph Coty, Benjamin Coty, Adam Coty, Sarah Coty, Wyatt Coty, Cienna Griffin, Cassidy Griffin, April Griffin, and last, but not least, her “other daughter,” Beth Nicholas.

Her constant companions through the years were her four-legged family, Pugo, Sam, Willie, Buffy and Gidget. Several of them will accompany her as she takes her final journey. She will be missed by one and all, but will live on in our memories.

A funeral service will be held at noon, on Thursday, April 5, at the Miller-Jones Mortuary Chapel, 1501 W. Florida Avenue, Hemet, Calif., followed by a service at 1:30 p.m. at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, Calif.

Interment will be at the Riverside National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to the SPCA, or the charity of your choice.
