The road back started here...

Blakely being the “Peanut Proud” community struggling most under a dark cloud of negative publicity resulting from the salmonella outbreak which has bruised the entire peanut industry, it’s fitting the effort to restore both the industry’s image and that of the community will kickoff here Saturday, March 21.

Court Square will be the location of a special Peanut Proud” EXPO festival designed to refocus the public’s attention on the importance and safety of peanuts and peanut food products.

The EXPO stemmed from the simple thought about a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Actually, from a recent discussion at Birdsong Peanuts’ office on N. Bay St. of everyone in the office eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in an effort to promote the public’s trust in peanuts.

“Trustworthy” turned out to be on everyone’s minds as a number of peanut organizations and companies quickly jumped on board.

The EXPO will be fun, entertaining and educational with activities planned for all ages from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the final day of National Ag Week. — ECN March 4, 2009: Thefirst” Peanut Proud article 10 years ago.
