‘Giving on Game Day’ project raised money for charities

The Early County Middle School’s “Giving on Game Day” project raised over $800 for charities. Students were allowed to wear jeans on Game Day Fridays in exchange for giving to others.

Their first charity was the Blakely Animal Shelter to which they donated $134.50 and food and toys for homeless animals.

Their second charity was the Friends of Kolomoki Mounds State Park. Friends vice president Stella Smith was presented a check for $187.00.

The students gathered items for foster care goodie bags for the Pataula Center for Children and school supplies for the Peanuts for Pencils campaign.

ECMS teacher Gina Gaines assisted a classroom in Texas after the Hurricane Harvey flooding. ECMS students gathered items and raised $241 for the Texas classroom . Olam Inc. paid to ship the items to Texas.

The students brought canned goods and raised over $200 for the Southwest Georgia Food Bank.

Also, wanting to share with some that may not receive anything at Christmas and spread love and joy into our community, the ECMS Yearbook Staff delivered 110 pairs of socks to the Early Memorial Nursing Home for Christmas. The staff delivered the socks room by room and got lots of hugs and smiles from the residents.

“Giving on Game Day” will continue during the spring with baseball, tennis, track and soccer games.
