Collis Tomlinson

Collis “Pop” Tomlinson passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, in Lubbock, Texas.

Mr. Tomlinson was born Sept. 5, 1921, to Roland and Rebecca Lane Tomlinson at Lily, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in both the European and Asian tours. He worked as an airplane mechanic until retirement.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; infant son, Collis Avnel Tomlinson Jr.; daughter Connie Tomlinson Johnson; and six brothers.

Survivors include a son, Mike Tomlinson and wife Wendy of Lubbock, Texas; two daughters, Michele Johnson and husband Carl of Cleveland, Texas, and Becky King of Damascus, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

After a funeral service in Texas, he will be buried in the family plot at New Park Cemetery in Fort Gaines, Ga., at a later date with no formal service in Georgia. However, family and friends in the Blakely area can come by Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, 1 p.m. until closing at 5 p.m. to pay their final respects to Mr. Tomlinson.
