TSPLOST projects sought

The Early County Board of Commissioners took the first step in calling for a TSPLOST referendum last week, sending the following letter to the mayors of Blakely, Arlington, Damascus and Jakin.

The Early County Board of Commissioners has determined it will be in the county’s best interest to call for a special election on May 22, 2018, during the general election, to seek the approval of a referendum to impose the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax to begin Jan. 1, 2019.

The Board seeks your municipality’s input and participation in the development of the capital projects within your city for the referendum, provided you are qualified.

The Board requests, due to the time lines for the election process, for each of you to provide to the Board your written requests for the capital projects to be included in the referendum on or before Jan. 22, 2018.

Please submit your project requests in writing to the County Administrator by this date. This time period will allow for their timely review and consideration.

A scheduled called meeting will be held in compliance with the TSPLOST proceedings on Jan. 22, 2018, 10 a.m. at the County Building, 202 Court Square, Blakely, Ga. You will have the opportunity to present to the Board your capital projects within your city that would qualify for funding through the proposed Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax to be effective Jan. 1, 2019, upon its approval in the May 22, 2018, election.
