Crowdis Run will help kickoff Bicentennial

The Jan. 20 Dr. James H. Crowdis Run and Walk at the First United Methodist Church will serve as the kick off activity for the Early County Bicentennial. The photo shows the Methodist Church in the early 1900s along side the Blakely Institute.

Former Early County residents, particularly those who competed in the Dr. Crowdis Run in past years, are encouraged to return home to participate. The Dr. Crowdis Run began in 1981 as the Blakely Heart Fund Run.

Those who are unable to run the 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles) events are encouraged to participate as walkers. All finishers receive medals and awards will be presented to both runners and walkers. Both races start at 9:15 a.m.

Sponsors for this event are the Bank of Early, Grist Oil Company, the Fourth Out Sports Grill, Piggly Wiggly, and LifeBrite Community Hospital. Entry forms are available at sponsor locations as well as at Blakely Fitness Center and the Early County Museum.
