Dr. James H. Crowdis Run

2018 race will help kickoff Early County Bicentennial

Lace up your shoes and join the crowd at the Dr. James H. Crowdis Run and Walk to help kick off the Early County Bicentennial Jan. 20.

This event will get under way at 9:15 a.m. at First United Methodist Church on College Street with runners and walkers participating in two events – 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) and 10,000 meters (6.2 miles).

While the fastest overall and the fastest in each age category for both males and females will receive trophies, everyone who crosses the finish line regardless of how fast will be draped with a finisher’s medal.

The run and walk began in 1981 as the Blakely Heart Fund Run and was later named in honor of the late Dr. James H. Crowdis, a Blakely physician for 53 years and longtime head of the local Heart Fund.

Sponsors for the event are the Bank of Early, Grist Oil Company, The 4th Out, Piggly Wiggly, and LifeBrite Community Hospital. Entry forms are available at these locations and also at the Body Shoppe and the Early County Museum.
