Veterans honored at Southwest Georgia Academy

Southwest Georgia Academy paid tribute to veterans Friday with an Honors Day program hosted by the Student Council, Senior Beta and Junior Beta organizations.

The veterans entered the auditorium as Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the U.S.A. video played. Justin Grimsley, Student Council President, introduced the veterans by branches and reminded those in attendance of Francis Scott Key’s words in the Star-Spangled Banner that called America “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Each veteran stood proudly when their branch of service song was presented.

The guest speakers were Dr. Kermit Soileau, pastor of Georgetown Baptist Church, and Senator Freddie Powell Sims, who represents the 12th Senatorial District. Both speakers gave speeches highlighting what our veterans do to keep our nation “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Veterans attending the program included Ted McLendon, Ray Joiner, Bill Rotherham, Ryan Sheffield, Ronnie Lee, Harold Hardage, Charles Clark, Gary Clark, Leonard Stuart II, Leonard Stuart III, Jason Kimbrel, Wally Robertson, Benny Chandler, Herbert Sims, Jaa Tucker, Mike Ginn, Nolan Strickland, Rick LaGuardia and Harry Rich Jr.
