The Bobcats went undefeated during the 1977 season and were 13-0 when they went to Rome to play for the state championship.

To this day, most Bobcat fans who made the trip to Rome, including this writer, declare the East Rome team that beat the Bobcats 31-7 was the best high school team they had seen.

Most will also declare that was the coldest weather they had ever endured during a high school football game.

Sixteen of the seniors from that team along with coaches Walt Landing and Joe Owens were honored Friday night at halftime.
