Municipal elections Tuesday

Voters will be going to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots for local candidates in Blakely, Arlington and Damascus.

Early voting for the Nov. 7 General Election will continue through Friday, Nov. 3.

Voters are reminded that pursuant to Georgia law, all voters are required to provide proper photo identification when voting.

If a voter is unable to produce any of the forms of ID, he or she may be allowed to vote a provisional ballot upon the requirements of Georgia law being met.

The provisional ballot will count if the problem is solved within three days after.


Two City Council posts are up for election in Blakely — City Council District 1, Post 1 and District 2, Post 2.

District 1, Post 1 incumbent Al Hutchins is being challenged by Arthur Wimbush. District 2, Post 1 incumbent Charles Middleton is being challenged by Travis Wimbush.


In addition to electing a mayor and four city councilmen, Arlington voters will be considering a special election question on the ballot... “Shall the issuance of licenses for the package sale of distilled spirits be approved?”

Three candidates are running for mayor: incumbent Marvin King, Raymond Williams and Jerome Brackins.

Candidates for council posts include: Council Post 2: Leonard Davis and Kenneth Sizemore. Council Post 4: incumbent Betty Murdock and Deidre Evans-Severson. Council Post 5 - incumbent Lisa Aldridge. Council Post 6: John Hatcher and Elgunnita Moore.


Two candidates are running for three City Council seats in Damascus — incumbents Pat Levatte and Angela Salter Holmes. A third council seat remains open.

Note: There will be no municipal election in Jakin in November.
