Warriors defeat TA Eagles

Before the game started SGA fans gathered around at 7:15 to welcome 1st Lieutenant Weston Lee’s platoon, family, and friends to retire his football jersey. Lee lost his life while serving in Iraq at the age of 25. He was an SGA 2010 graduate and will always be remembered as an SGA warrior.

At the beginning of the game the Terrell Academy Eagles kicked the ball off. Cam Granger and KJ Warren scored touchdowns in the first quarter. Their defense was able to hold Terrell Academy from scoring resulting in a 14-0 score by the end of the first quarter.

Both the Warriors and the Eagles scored 2 touchdowns in the second quarter ensuing in a half time score of 28- 12 with the Warriors in the lead.

During half time the SGA seniors who played a fall sport was honoured for all their achievements they have made throughout their high school years. During the third quarter the Eagles were able to come out and score one touchdown on the Warriors.

Showing a lot of heart and determination the Warriors scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The ending score was 40-27 making the Warriors region champions.

Senior Cam Granger had 24 carries for 160 yards averaging 6.7 yards per carry and 3 touchdowns. Senior KJ Warren had 15 carries for a 183 yards averaging 12.2 yards per carry and 2 touchdowns. Senior BB Tedder had 6 carries for 28 yards averaging 4.7 yards per carry along with 2 2- point conversions. Junior Aaron Haire had 11 tackles and 1 sack. Granger, had 8 tackles. Junior Holden Phillips had 6 tackles. Warren, had 4 tackles and 1 sack. Tedder and junior Luke Benton had 4 tackles. Sophomore Aiden Bruner had 3 tackles. Juniors Keyshawn Jackson and Collier McLendon, along with sophomores Ted Sasser and Lance Laguardia, had 2 tackles. Senior Miller Pickle, along with juniors Beau Watson and Walker Heard, had 1 tackle.

Coach McFather stated “I am very proud of our players and coaches. We had a big win Friday over a very good Terrell Academy team. A region championship has always been a goal for us and we are very thankful to our community and fans for all their support up to now and as we continue into the playoffs.”

SGA’s record is 7-2 and 2-0 in the region. The Warriors will have a bye on the first round of playoffs and will play their next game in two weeks. Go Warriors!
