Double homicide in Ft. Gaines

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a double homocide which took place early Friday morning in Fort Gaines.

Fort Gaines police officers were dispatched to a home at 206 College Street around 1 a.m. Friday when gunshots were reported.

The officers found Charlie Smith, 29, and Manuelito Jackson, age unknown, dead at the residence.

Neighbors reported hearing five or six gunshots, stating, “but it’s not something unusual.”

Fort Gaines Police Chief Sam Sterling requested the GBI to assist with the murder investigation. Investigators have not released the cause of death of Smith and Jackson or if they have any suspects. Autopsies will be performed at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon.
