County meeting

It appears a new tenant will soon be sought for the Blakely-Early County airport. Early Aviation’s lease is being terminated due to the company’s failure to make lease payments and maintain required insurance.

Early Aviation entered into a lease agreement with the county in June 2016 with plans to operate a full service FBO, including certified maintenance and inspection, a paint hanger, fuel, flight instruction, charters and more.

County administrator Spencer Mueller updated the commissioners on two major projects. He stated the $650,000 courthouse heat and air conditioning project had been completed. He also noted the first phase of the Aspire project, a $500,000 renovation of the former youth detention center, was near completion.

He also stated that “No Firearms” signs had been placed on all county properties.

The commissioners approved Coroner Todd Hunter’s request to be included in the county’s health insurance plan. Like the commissioners, Hunter will pay 100 percent of the costs.

They also renewed the Family Connection $1/year lease of the property at 40-A Harold Ragan Dr.

(NOTE: Omitted from the September commission meeting was a proposal by Commissioner Jeffrey Haynes that the city and county pursue another consolidation study. The proposal was approved by the commissioners.)
