Chamber Notes

By Cecelia Bostwick

It really is fall, y’all. October is full of fun and fundraisers for the Blakely-Early Chamber of Commerce. This week we hope you will join us for First Thursday Downtown. We appreciate local support from retailers and restaurant owners. The specials and discounts draw our neighbors from surrounding areas. The vendors pay a fee that goes straight to marketing for the next event.

We invite local artisans to bring their jellies, cakes, candies, candles, door hangers, wreaths, handmade jewelry — and any other crafts to sell. Other vendors include entrepreneurs selling cute clothing and handmade items.

Heather Warfield will have a table setup to paint Blakely GA Rocks. This is a fun way to promote Blakely and try our artistic talent — and even not-so-artistic painting — it still works. Everyone enjoys finding a colorfully painted Blakely GA Rock and hiding it for someone else to find. Stop by and participate in the fun. I know a secret — ladies from Colomokee Baptist Church painted Blakely GA Rocks at a brunch and plan to hide them around the Square on Thursday. They hope you find their labors of love.

We thank Grist Oil for allowing staging of the KidZone in their parking lot. The KidZone will include new seasonal games — pumpkins, cats, and other bean bag games — along with trucks and tractors. We will have balloons and candy for winners.

We are looking forward to our Chamber Bingo Night on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Town and Country Club. We will enjoy dinner, lots of prizes and fun visiting with friends. We hope you will stop by the Blakely- Early Chamber of Commerce and purchase tickets for this fun night out.

On Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Blakely Town and Country Club — it’s our strongest fundraiser of the year — the Annual Two-Man Scramble. Lunch included. Mark your calendars and help us make this a great fundraiser for the Chamber.

Why are we trying to raise funds? We want to offer more for our businesses in Early County. With the funds raised at these events, we can offer business training for small businesses which would include, marketing, social media, business bookkeeping applications, communications, business finance, human resources, and/or other training that would be beneficial.

We have a beautiful town and county. Let’s look at ways we can make Blakely and Early County more attractive and inviting. By working together, we can do more.

We hope you will become a member of the Blakely-Early County Chamber of Commerce. You don’t have to be a business owner — your interest in making our area a better place to live, work, raise families, and retire make you an ideal member. You are invited to join us. Individual memberships are only $64 annually. We need you!

We are most grateful for your attendance and support for our Chamber events. Our monthly Board meeting is held each third Wednesday at noon. Join us!
