Wayne Carr

Herbert Wayne Carr, 90, of Donalsonville died Sept. 10, 2017, at his home.

Mr. Carr was born to the late William Homer and Roberta Strickland Carr in Henry County Ala., in the Capp Station community on April 5, 1927. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945 and was stationed in Eschwege, Germany before returning home. He was a farmer and participated in organizations that supported farming, education, veterans and community.

He was a member of Jakin Free Will Baptist Church where he served as song leader and a deacon; he served as clerk of the Paul Palmer Conference for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna Pauline Sowell; siblings Maudrie, Mildred, Bill, Gene, Louella, Hugh and Joe.

Survivors include three daughters, Suzanne Carr Coates of Smithfield, N.C., Lauren Carr Spooner and husband Wade of Donalsonville, and Veronica Carr Pearce of Bainbridge; three siblings, Carolyn Brady of Cedar Springs, Kay Moore of Madison, Fla., and Bobby Carr and wife Oneida of Hampton; nine grandchildren; and 21 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be at Jakin Free Will Baptist Church Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Evans Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville.
