Chester Houston

John Chester Houston, 95, passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at Early Memorial Nursing Home in Blakely, Ga.

Mr. Houston was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Blakely to the late Homer Cyrus Houston Sr. and Laura Emma Mock Houston. He was an automobile salesman for over 35 years, a member of Southside Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Houston King; and by six brothers, Bill Houston, Charlie Houston, Bob Houston, Bruce Houston, Homer Houston Jr. and Max Houston.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Thelma Evans Houston of Blakely; two sons, Craig Houston and wife Julie of W. Columbia, S.C., and Scott Houston and wife Susan of Hoover, Ala.; two sisters, Betty Strickland of Ashford, Ala., and Eugenia Redding of Ft. Valley, Ga.; a brother, Stanley Houston and wife Linda of Blakely; three grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Mac Enfinger and Rev. Robert Mitchell officiating. Burial followed in the Blakely Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Graham Harvin, Jimmy Helton, Mal Freeman, Brett Houston, David Cleveland, Keith Houston, Hunter Evans and Stan Houston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Southside Baptist Church, 22240 Lucile Rd., Blakely, GA 39823.

Manry-Jordan- Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
