Seventeen holiday fatalities

Seventeen traffic deaths were reported across Georgia during the July 4th holiday travel period which began at 6 p.m. June 30 and ended at 11:59 p.m. July 4.

Georgia State Troopers investigated 620 traffic crashes that resulted in 260 injuries and 11 fatalities. In addition, 294 people were arrested for driving under the influence. GSP troopers issued 9,945 citations and 14,767 warnings during the holiday period.

Six fatalities were reported by local agencies in Richmond Co., Cherokee Co., Gwinnett Co., Columbus and Atlanta.
