Drug arrests made by sheriff’s department

Recent tips received by investigators led to three recent drug arrests and a traffic stop led to the arrest of a fourth suspect.

On May 5 Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Jermaine Mells, 30, of Blakely after receiving information Mells was participating in the distribution of illegal drugs.

Investigators located Mells and searched his Howell St. residence. The search led to the discovery of a quantity of marijuana and cocaine.

Mells has been charged with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

It was also discovered that Mells had an outstanding warrant for probation violation.

Another tip of a location where marijuana plants were being grown led to the May 11 arrest of James Gallon, 67, and Kathy Gallon, 64, of Powell Rd. in Early County.

Investigators and deputies conducted a search of the area and discovered 24 mature marijuana plants. Investigation revealed the Gallons were cultivating of the plants. A search of the Gallon’s residence resulted in the recovery of more marijuana prepared for consumption.

Both Gallons have been charged with manufacturing marijuana and felony possession of marijuana.

A May 6 traffic stop led to the arrest of a Jakin area man after he was found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine. Don Collins, 37, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and failure to maintain lane.
