Mary Hazel Brown


Mary Hazel Chandler Brown passed away Friday evening, Sept. 23, 2016, at Early Memorial Nursing Home, Blakely, Ga.

Mrs. Brown was born Dec. 29, 1925, to the late Charles Stuart and Alberta Brightwell Chandler. She graduated from Blakely Union High School and attended Valdosta State College in Valdosta, Ga. On July 28, 1944, she married Harvey Olden Brown and they were married 62 years until his death in 2006.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Blakely and served in many capacities to include Woman’s Missionary Union, Girls’ Auxiliary Missions, Sunday School teacher, and church choir. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Brown was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and friend. She was known for her wit, compassion and encouraging words. She loved and served her God, her family and others. She retired from the Early County School System after working over 20 years at the Early County Middle School.

She is survived by four daughters, Carol Pryor of Charlotte, N.C.; Judy Fleming and husband Billy of Blakely, Mary Naramore and husband Tom of Saint Augustine, Fla., and Madelyn Reed and husband Nick of Saint Augustine; one sister, Sibyl Chandler Bostwick of Blakely; 10 grandchildren, Jamie Pryor Wimberly and husband Mark of Charlotte, N.C.; Heath Fleming and wife Lenora of Tallahassee, Fla.; Christie Naramore Chandler and husband Neil of Ponte Vedra, Fla., Joe Naramore and wife Carley of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; Heather Fleming Kinzalow and husband Carl of Phenix City, Ala., Jenifer Hayes Crane and husband Ricky of Keystone Heights, Fla; Holden Fleming of Blakely, Todd Hayes of Daytona Beach, Fla., Julie Pryor Ray and husband Chris of Denton, Texas, Jenny Pryor of Dunwoody, Ga.; 18 great-grandchildren, Jacob Wimberly, Georgia Wimberly, Skylar Fleming, Lauren Dasher, Hayden Dasher, Avery Dasher, Jaxon Naramore, Collin Naramore, Allen Kinzalow, Denise Kinzalow, Tye Stephenson, Sydney Stephenson, Jake Fleming, Dylan Hayes, Presley Hayes, Nathaniel Ray, Callie Ray and Josie Ray; and devoted caretakers, Winona Love and Kaye Slay.

A visitation for family and friends was held Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at 10 a.m. in the social hall of First Baptist Church in Blakely. A Celebration of Life service followed at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church sanctuary with the Rev. Keith Alderman and Rev. Joe Naramore officiating. Graveside services were at the Blakely Cemetery for immediate family members.

Pallbearers were Heath Fleming, Joe Naramore, Holden Fleming, Todd Hayes, Allen Kinzalow, Tye Stephenson, Jaxon Naramore, Hayden Dasher and Collin Naramore.

Manry-Jordan- Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
