Avent earns master of arts degree

Elizabeth Avent Elizabeth Avent Elizabeth Shimere Avent, a 2008 graduate of Early County High School and a recipient of the Charles and Catherine B. Rice Scholarship, graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga., on May 7, 2016, with a master of arts in gerontology.

Miss Avent graduated from Georgia State University in 2012 with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology, along with an undergraduate certificate in gerontology. She returned to Georgia State University to complete the master’s program at The Gerontology Institute. She has worked and interned at Grady Memorial Hospital and the Georgia Council on Aging at the Division of Aging Services, both located in Atlanta, Ga. She is currently working on a five-year research study focusing on the care networks of residents in assisted-living facilities. Avent plans to pursue her Ph. D in gerontology, with a research focus on elder abuse and late life intimate partner violence.
