Probable electrical fire destroys patrol car

The probable cause of a fire that destroyed a Sheriff ’s Dept. patrol car Sunday has been identified as faulty wiring in the dash.

Captain Donnie Skipper was returning to his home on Giles Hightower Road from Damascus when his wife, Renee, called to tell him his patrol car was on fire.

She was in their home with her sister and three children when they hear a loud “bang” and looked out the window to find the vehicle engulfed in flames.

While several passersby had stopped to render assistance, the flames spread to the house before volunteers arrived and extinguished the fire.

The loud bang that alerted those in the house was one of the vehicles tires exploding from the flames.

Skipper noted that the vehicle had not been driven since the previous day.
