More city sewer improvements

The Blakely City Council moved forward with another sewer improvement project at their May 6 meeting at City Hall, voting to accept the low bid of $391,355.18 by HTS Construction for sewer work on Lee, Jackson and Fort Gaines streets. The project is being funded with a Community Development Block Grant.

The council also approved alternate parking material of crush and run or gravel for Early Traders, an open air market located on Hwy. 62 East. A request to place a travel trailer on a property under renovation was approved for six months and a square footage variance for a Habitat for Humanity house on Meadowbrook Drive was approved.

A pool hall application for North Church Street was approved and a program agreement for groups wishing to adopt a city park was approved. The agreement outlines the volunteer activities acceptable for the program and limits events hosted by the organizations at the park to two per year. New equipment and concrete to expand the animal shelter at a cost of $9,274 was approved and the council authorized transfer of funds from the jail fund for jail repairs and new water heaters.
