Wrestling Saturday night


Ron Simmons Ron Simmons Wrestling is coming to Blakely Saturday night! The Early County High gym will be the site of five matches, including an exciting six-man tag team match.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Early County High athletic department.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. featuring a special appearance by former FSU football player and WWE Superstar Ron Simmons. Entertainment will be provided by Micaelah Gale and Kasey Gale- Smith, Nashville recording artist.

A multiple time tag champ in both WWE and WCW and a College Football Hall of Famer, Simmons became the first officially recognized African-American world champion in sports-entertainment, paving the way for future superstars like The Rock and Booker T.

A native of Perry, Ga., Simmons earned All- American honors at FSU. His No. 50 jersey was retired at FSU, and he was ultimately inducted into the Orange Bowl Hall of Fame.

After playing for the Cleveland Browns and the Tampa Bay Bandits in the USFL, Simmons made his professional wrestling debut in 1986, ultimately becoming a tag team stand out and WCW World Champion.

Simmons joined the WWE in 1996 under the name Faarooq, and formed The Nation of Domination. Mentoring members like The Rock and Mark Henry early in their careers, he played a significant role in shaping the future of WWE.
