Streets to be repaired soon!

Several streets in the city have been in a state of disrepair the past several months from sewer line repair of rain damage.

Drivers have had to use caution when they approach a small section of North Church which was washed out by heavy rains in February.

Recent sewer line repairs have left sections of disrupted pavement along Fort Gaines Street, Washington Street and South Boulevard.

Utilities Director Charles Jenkins told the News Monday the repairs would be made as soon as the asphalt plant located on the U.S. 27 Bypass is back up running.

The asphalt plant has been shut down for maintenance and a switch from diesel to natural gas. Jenkins told the News the city had completed its portion of the project last month and the plant was scheduled to start back up the first week in June.

“As soon as the asphalt is available we plan to get those streets repaired,” Jenkins stated.
