Concussion testing for local athletes

The medical community and national media have been increasing awareness of the importance of properly diagnosing, and treating, concussions among athletes at all levels who participate in contact sports.

At the urging of Dr. Garrett Bennett and Brandy Floyd, P.A., Pioneer Healthcare of Early County recently donated funds to Southwest Georgia Academy and Early County High School for the purchase of the ImPACT Test which will allow for 375 baseline tests and 115 post-injury tests to be performed on local high school athletes.

The ImPACT Test will enhance the information medical providers will have access to when deciding whether or not to allow an athlete to return to action after a potential concussion.

ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is the first, most-widely used and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system.

Putting the health of the community’s highschool athletes first is a part of Pioneer’s commitment to Early County.

“Insuring the safety of our athletes is our priority. ImPACT will offer peace of mind to parents, players and the school,” added Brandy Floyd, P.A.

“We are thankful for the help of Pioneer. This will create a safer environment for our players and offer reassurance to our families,” said Matt Dalrymple, Headmaster at SGA.

“I am beyond grateful to Pioneer for their generous support. I can’t wait to see how this rolls out to my athletes,” stated Trey Woolf, athletic director and Bobcat head football coach.

Pioneer’s team of local healthcare providers, in addition to Dr. Bennett and Brandy, includes Dr. Michael Clifford, Dr. Vincent Barker, Dr. Lamar Brand, Julie Hornsby, NP, and Ann Kelly, NP, and Terrance Hartman, P.A.
