Practice run for Dr. Crowdis 5K Run Saturday

Those wishing to practice running the Dr. Crowdis Run 5K course will have their chance this Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Registration for the Crowdis Run will be accepted in person at this time.

The Dr. James H. Crowdis Run will be held Saturday, Sept. 1 at the First United Methodist Church. A 5K race and a one mile race will start simultaneously at 8:30 a.m.

The race began originally as the Heart Fund Run in 1981 and was changed to the Dr. Crowdis Run in 1983 in honor of Dr. James H. Crowdis, a Blakely physician for more than 50 years.

Runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Awards will be presented in both races and there will also be awards in the 5K for those who walk the fastest.

A special challenge award will be given to the Early County school whose students, faculty and staff total the most miles covered during the race.

Sponsors are The 4th Out Grille, Bank of Early, Hall Drugs, Piggly Wiggly and GemRay & Associates. Entry forms are available throughout town and on the web site: www.crowdisrun.weebly.com.
