A Blakely woman, Connie Joy Lynn Sanders Smith, 35, was killed Wednesday, Feb. 29 when the vehicle she was driving collided head-on with a log truck west of Blakely on Hwy 62.

The driver of the empty log truck, Cecil Michael Cascaddan, 52, of Whigham, Ga., told authorities Smith lost control of her 2002 Ford Escape when she was run off the road by a gray pickup truck. “It happened so fast I hardly had time to hit the brakes,” the truck driver stated.

Cascaddan, who traveling east, following the pickup, was unable to give authorities any description of the pickup other than the tailgate being down. He noted the truck had “swerved several times” before forcing Smith off the road.

The log truck was owned by C&S Forestry of Whigham,

The accident happened on Highway 62 near Hilton west of Blakely, approximately one half mile east of the Rock Hill Road intersection.
