Three Notch employee honored

Mrs. W.A. Lacey of Cedar Springs paid Three Notch EMC a visit last week to personally thank a Three Notch employee for saving her life.
Cliff Godwin was reading his route in the Cedar Springs area the morning of Feb. 3, 2009. The temperature was about 30 degrees when he pulled up the long drive to Mrs. Lacey’s rural home about 8:30 a.m.
He discovered Mrs. Lacey had fallen in her yard and could not get up. Cliff resorted to his Three Notch and U.S. Navy first aid training to keep her as comfortable and warm as possible before calling an Early County 911 dispatcher. He stayed with the her until the EMTs arrived. It was later discovered in the emergency room that she had suffered a severely broken hip.
According to Lacey’s daughter, Joy Phillips, her mother sincerely believes that due to the remoteness of her home, the extent of her injuries and the low temperature that morning, Cliff saved her life. She has no family living nearby and was expecting no visitors that morning.
Cliff, who has been employed at Three Notch 21 years, was presented the Georgia EMC Lifesaving Award at the GEMC annual meeting in Augusta in November. Life Saving Awards awards are given annually to EMC employees who have performed heroic acts to aid others in distress.
Cliff has been a valued employee of TNEMC for over 21 years and we are very proud of him, a Three Notch spokesperon remarked.
