Incumbents unchallenged

Qualifying for two Blakely city council posts closed Friday with the two incumbents the only two candidates which qualified for the Nov. 3 election.

Al Hutchins qualified for re-election to Post 1 in District 1 and Charles Middleton for re-election to Post 1 in District 2.

Mayor Ric Hall and city council posts held by Torre Mills and Andy Smith are not up for re-election this year.

In Damascus only one candidate — Nathaniel Thompson — qualified for two at-large council seats.

The News learned Damascus city officials appointed Gwen Freeman Tuesday morning to fill the other atlarge seat.
