It's an hour lost
      Daylight savings time started overnight, and if you haven't sprung your clocks forward one hour, put the newspaper down. You're late for church. I actually like the end result of daylight savings time.

It' not Spring just yet
      Spring's not quite here, we'll have to wait until next week to talk about that. Should've known that when I passed by a particular bit of woods and didn't see the wild Easter lillies blooming. But, Spring's not far off judging by the wildlife activities around our house. Judy had a buck "blow" at her in the yard late Monday afternoon. Naw, it's not that time of year.

It isn't the mule's fault
      I'm not sure who is in charge of gift buying at the White House, but he or she might want to call Martha Stewart for suggestions for gift ideas for future visiting dignitaries. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown visited the White House recently and brought President Obama a pen holder made from wood taken from the antislavery ship H.M.S.

Writing a book — it's all in the name
      It's a poorly kept "secret" that just about anyone who has ever written for a newspaper hopes to one day write a best-selling book. Or at least a well-distributed gospel tract. Me, too. Hopefully, before newspapers are extinct. I'll get started as soon as I have a decent story idea.

      In 1932, the federal courts affirmed gangster Al Capone's 11-year prison sentence and heavy fine for income tax evasion. He was sent to Alcatraz and then the Atlanta pen before he was given his freedom to die of advanced syphilis.

Transportation an issue in the House
      Lawmakers reconvened Tuesday, March 3 at 10 am. The General Assembly is back in session Monday, March 9 at 10 am for the 28 legislative day. Thursday, March 12 is scheduled for "cross over day" which is the 30th day and the last day bills can cross from one chamber to the other for the first time.
