When does spring arrive?

      When does spring begin? Well, it depends on whom you ask. Most calendar makers list the fist day of spring as the day of the vernal equinox, which occurs around March 20. This is referred to as astronomical spring. Most atmospheric scientists, meteorologists and climatologists say it begins March 1.

      White Oak Pastures is one of five district winners in Gov. Purdue's competition for the Annual Environmental Stewardship Award. Seeking the Georgia farmers who are doing the best they can to protect the environment on and around their farms, the past four years Gov. Planning meeting set for catfish festvial
      On May 16 Bagby State Park and Lodge will host their first annual "Catfish Festival." This event will consist of an arts and crafts festival, youth fishing rodeo, free hayrides and pontoon boat rides, entertainment, and a special menu by the Pilothouse Restuarant at the lodge.

News from the past
      10 YEARS AGO March 5, 1999 CITY officials, local businessmen and citizens gathered at Queen City Home Medical in Sawyer Shopping Center for the official ribbon cutting and grand opening last Thursday. HELEN AND Waylon Lacey recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a covered dish luncheon and reception at Beulah Baptist Church in Cedar Springs.

City lights generate positive feedback
      For the past few months, the "Grand Old Lady" and Court Square in Blakely have been adorned with festive lights shining around the square and down the adjoining streets. In celebration of "Christmas on the Square" the lights were turned on by the City of Blakely for the first time Dec. 6.
